2010 Workshop: Taiwan

The International Conference of Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine for Neurodegenerative Diseases to be held at the Tzu-Chi Hospital in Hualien, Taiwan on April 22-24, 2010.

Hualien is a beautiful town located on the west coast of Taiwan, it faces the Pacific Ocean with high mountains at its back, including the Jade Mountain with a peak at 12,998 feet (4 km or 2.5 miles high).  Next to Hualien is the Taroko River Gorge, reputed to be longer and deeper than the Grand Canyon.  On the 21st of April, we will be taking speakers on a day trip through the Gorge.  The meeting starts at noon of the 22nd.  On the evening of the 22nd, we will have a welcome banquet.

The meeting will have three sessions:  one on advances in stem cell research, one on translational, and the third on clinical trials.

The Spinal Cord Workshop

Goal

The goal of the 2009 Spinal Workshop is to bring together the three key areas: Neurosurgery, Neurology, and Basic Science to identify the remaining barriers to cure. By the end of this one-day workshop, the group will have produced a publishable list of the current barriers. The report from this workship will serve as guidelines for seeking the resources necessary to solve the problems identified.

Format

This workshop is not designed to be a general exchange of ideas, but rather a clinical / basic science interchange to solve specific, targeted problems. During the morning session, the workshop’s faculty will present each of the major areas of research. During the afternoon session, the faculty will focus on summarizing and targeting the current barriers in each area. At the end of the day, all these presentations will culminate in a list of these barriers and discussion of next steps for moving the research forward.
